If Black boys could fly,

Their little arms would be

Long, loving noodles

Wrapped around momma’s thigh.

Their eyes would be

Beams of light shining,

Searching for truth in place of a lie.

Their feet would be

Click-clacking clackers

Telling the pavement to bring their friends outside.

If Black boys could fly,

And I mean really fly,

Their laughter would sound like

Little drops of wet goodness

Falling from the sky.

Their questions would be

Summer cookouts,

Bid the whole neighborhood,

“Come on by!”
